Legal relations between Germany and Italy

The research centre for Italian law at the Faculty of Law of Augsburg University (FIRA) focuses its studies on civil and economic law of Italy, and further on the legal sources which are relevant to the legal relations between Germany and Italy. These research subjects are not only interesting because of the originality of the Italian legal order but also – for a number of various practical reasons - in respect of Bavaria. The fact that a large proportion of Italians is living in Bavaria as well as a look at the foreign trade statistics reveals interesting insights. Bavaria ranges third after Austria and the US with regard to imports from Italy. In respect of exports Italy has an even more important function for Bavaria since Bavaria’s export to Italy comes second after the US. Another interesting aspect lies in the fact that a large number of Germans own real estate in Italy and spends its vacation in Italy.
