In criminal procedures psychiatric questions discussed prior to criminal procedures and the ways of dealing with them during criminal procedures are gaining increasing importance. We study the concept of guilt (including questions in respect of modern brain research) and the measures of improvement and detention, particularly the reasons for and limits of preventive detention as the last “emergency measure” of criminal justice. We have contributed towards a manual of forensic psychiatry which is considered to be the standard work and has meanwhile reached its 5th edition.
