Development and characterization of ferroelectric ferromagnets (multiferroics) with strong magnetocapacitive effects

So-called "multiferroic" materials, where the magnetic and electrical properties are intimately related, have an immense potential for new applications in modern microelectronics, e.g., in the development and miniaturization of fast data storage devices. Within this project we investigate these materials using magnetic methods and broadband dielectric spectroscopy in dependence of frequency, temperature, and magnetic field. The aim of the project is the search for new multiferroic materials and the clarification of the mechanisms leading to the unusual properties of this class of materials.
