Since 2006, Prof. Dr. Macro C. Meier has been deputy director of the FIM Research Center Finance & Information Management at the University of Augsburg. He is head of the research area “Business Intelligence” and holds a professorship for Business and Information Systems Engineering & Management Support.
Marco is primarily concerned with issues of the value-based and responsible use of information technology for management purposes. Here, the essential objective is to bring clarity into the decision making process for managers. Among other journals and conferences, his research results have been published in WIRTSCHAFTSINFORMATIK, Journal of Decision Systems, European Conference on Information Systems, Tagung Wirtschaftsinformatik, and Americas Conference on Information Systems.
In the context of his work experience, Marco collaborated with several partners from practice and public authorities (Bavarian State Ministry of Finance – Munich, BMW Group – Munich, Federal Employment Agency – Nuremberg, MLP AG – Wiesloch, SAP AG – Walldorf).
Marco earned a German Diploma (equivalent to a Master’s Degree) in business economics at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in 1996, focusing on business information systems, accounting, and business management. He finished his thesis “Conception and prototypical realization of a controlling-component for a workflow-management-system, supporting the tendering process of an engineering company” at INA Wälzlager Schaeffler KG, Herzogenaurach. During his basic studies, Marco completed a vocational training in the commercial sector at Fürst GmbH & Co KG, Nuremberg. He was research assistant at the Bavarian research center for knowledge-based systems (FORWISS), Erlangen, from November 1996 till April 2000. Moreover, he contributed to product development and product management in the Global Business Unit Financials of the SAP AG, Walldorf. Marco finished his doctoral thesis “Development of an editorial control center for the integration of external internet messages in planning and control systems” in cooperation with the SAP AG in June 2000 with “summa cum laude”.
Marco was honored with the “Best Teaching Award” by the student representatives of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Augsburg in 2009. Additionally, he was nominated for the dissertation award of the German Informatics Society (GI) in 2000.
