Transferzentrum Frieden presented at the UN Peacebuilding Week 2026 in New York
The Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations together with the
Center for International Peace Operations (ZIF) present examples of peacebuilding experiences at the local level, i.a. the
Peace Transfer Center
(Transferzentrum Frieden Augsburg). The Side Event "Strengthening Peacebuilding Partnerships at Local and National Levels in Conflict-Affected and Non-Conflict Settings“ to the UN Peacebuilding Week 2026 on June 26th will explore engagement and partnerships at the local level by showcasing practical examples featured in the 2025 "Compendium of Good Practice and Innovative Peacebuilding Approaches at the Local Level", initiated by the Center for International Peace Operations (ZIF) and with contributions from the Berlin Peacebuilding Community of Practice and its implementing partners. The Peace Transfer Center (Transferzentrum Frieden Augsburg) is one of the examples presented in the
"Compendium of Good Practice and Innovative Peacebuilding Approaches at the Local Level“. These examples serve to illustrate how peacebuilding experiences at the local level contribute to national conflict prevention, democratic resilience, and social cohesion across both conflict-affected and non-conflict settings. There is a real opportunity to learn from these experiences to help target interventions and support local peacebuilders, increase impact of peacebuilding efforts by exploring how to scale proven local approaches, and reinforce partnerships at all levels. Through these examples Member States will be able to unpack how to expand partnerships with local peacebuilders. The event serves as a platform for exchange among Member States and practitioners on how partnerships can support the development of effective and context-sensitive national prevention strategies. Taking full advantage of existing partnerships at all levels is essential to promote sustainable peace in all societies facing polarization, exclusion, disinformation, identity-based tensions, democratic fragility, climate-related pressures, or social fragmentation. The Peace Transfer Center (PTC) will be presented by
Prof. Christoph Weller, University of Augsburg, after the Opening Remarks of Katharina Ahrendts, Director-General for Global Order, United Nations and Humanitarian Assistance at the German Federal Foreign Office. Objectives: By showcasing concrete, practical examples, the side event aims to:
