Vorträge und Podiumsdiskussion: Positionsbestimmungen – Universität im Wandel
Die Universität Augsburg feiert ihr 50. Jubiläum. Ausgehend von ihrer Geschichte beleuchten ab dem 28. Juni vier Veranstaltungen Entwicklungen und Perspektiven deutscher Universitäten.
Augsburg/TG - The University of Augsburg is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Based on its history, four events highlight developments and perspectives of German universities. The first block of topics, which will include lectures and interviews with contemporary witnesses, will focus on the history of the founding and development of the "reform university" of Augsburg. A second one will be devoted to the history of university reforms in the Federal Republic. A concluding discussion panel will take a look at the current position of the university as an institution under the slogan "Aufbruch! The series of events to mark the 50th anniversary of the University of Augsburg will kick off on Monday, June 28, at 6:15 p.m. with two short lectures by the organizers on the topic of "Reformuniversität Augsburg". PD Dr. Stefan Paulus (Chair of Modern and Contemporary History, University of Augsburg) will explore the question of which concrete reform elements the University of Augsburg exhibited in the individual departments, especially in its founding and development phase. Dr. Werner Lengger (Head of the University Archives, University of Augsburg) will then examine the media and public response to the founding of the University of Augsburg and the associated reform concepts. The second event on Monday, July 5, 2021 (6:15 p.m.), will focus on contemporary witnesses who were closely associated with the various Augsburg reform approaches, each in a different role and function. The thematic arc ranges from "founding students" and their experiences since the "first hour" to a look at a current Augsburg reform model in the form of the Medical Faculty, which opened in 2019.
The third event (Monday, July 12, 6:15 p.m.) will focus on a guest lecture by Frankfurt historian Univ.-Prof. Dr. Barbara Wolbring, who is one of the best experts on the history of German higher education reforms. The focus of the talk will be on the topic of "democratization", in particular on those reform initiatives that focused on studies and the group of students. The series of events will conclude on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. with a panel discussion: Universities are facing major challenges in a world of accelerated change in society, culture, politics and business.
