International Perspectives on History Education: From July 6 to 19, 2026, approximately 20 participants from China will come to the University of Augsburg to discuss issues related to history education in schools, higher education institutions, and the public sphere, and to exchange ideas with German students and faculty.

The program focuses on issues related to the teaching of history in various social and cultural contexts, such as schools, universities, and museums. Topics include, among others, the culture of remembrance, public history, and the training of history teachers.

Diverse Program

In addition to East China Normal University (ECNU) in Shanghai—with which the Augsburg Chair of History Didactics has maintained a close partnership for 15 years—Shaanxi Normal University (SNNU) in Xi’an is participating as a partner in the summer school for the first time.

The program combines academic lectures and workshops with practical insights into German historical culture and historical-political education. Among other activities, the program includes school visits featuring discussions with teachers and students.

In addition, the program includes discussions with experts in the field, visits to museums and memorial sites, and excursions to Munich and Nuremberg. Visits to the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site and the Documentation Center at the Nazi Party Rally Grounds in Nuremberg are also planned.

An Established Exchange Program

The Sino-German Summer School on the Pedagogy of History has been held regularly at the University of Augsburg since 2015. It is supported by the Society of Friends of the Universities in Augsburg e.V.
