Curriculum Vitae

I am currently a Professor in Physical Geography, Geomorphology working on river catchment processes (e.g., soil loss, hydrology) and their implications upon soil, water and agricultural sustainability. Some of my specific expertise includes analyzing the impacts of soil erosion and sediment transport on water resources, detecting sediment sources, developing fine sediment tracing and fingerprinting techniques in river catchments and using fallout radionuclides in erosion and sedimentation investigations. I have published on topics relevant to soil, water and agricultural sustainability, often working with research collaborators here at Shahid Beheshti University, at Tehran University, as well as those in the USA, Australia, Austria, Belgium and the UK. At Shahid Beheshti University I currently teach a number of courses including hydrology, soil erosion, quaternary geomorphology, statistics and modeling. I am presently a Research Fellowship at University of Augsburg. I was the head of Department of Physical Geography. I have a strong track record in the statistical analysis of large and complex datasets. Based on Scopus database searching the field of “sediment fingerprinting”, I have achieved the tenth rank between the specialist in this field all around the world. Research foci

  • Fieldwork: stream velocity and discharge, portable water quality parameter measurement; water and soil sample collection
  • Laboratory: particle sieving, elemental extraction, soil physical and chemical properties measurement, water physical and chemical parameters measurement, soil enzyme activity measurement techniques, soil and sediment geochemical and rare elements measurement techniques.
  • Statistical analysis and interpretation of soil, water and plant data: basic statistics and multivariate techniques for large and complex datasets including cluster analysis, factor analysis, discriminant function analysis, principal component & classification analysis, canonical analysis, multiple regression, general linear mixed models, general regression models, time series and forecasting.
