Who is the stundent association?
What is the Student Association?
A student association generally includes all students in a degree program or faculty, thereby forming the community of students in a particular field. In everyday use, however, the term “student association” usually refers to a group of students who volunteer their time to advocate for the interests of the student body. As the student association, we represent students’ concerns to faculty members and the department, organize events, and contribute to the further development of the program. If you’d like a more detailed overview of our work, feel free to check out our Annual Report 2025.
Our student association is organized as a registered association (e. V.). This serves primarily organizational and legal purposes, such as managing finances or organizing events. As an e. V., we naturally also have bylaws, which you can view here.
As the Geography Student Association, we are committed to respect, fairness, and equality. We view diversity as an asset and strive to promote inclusion both within our association and at our events. We do not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment. If you have any concerns, please feel free to contact us at any time.
Our Tasks
The student association offers students the opportunity to actively shape their academic experience. We represent the interests of students in our department, provide support for questions related to their studies, and serve as a point of contact for feedback. In addition, we are actively involved in student government and see ourselves as a bridge between students and faculty, ensuring that concerns are communicated quickly and efficiently.
But studying is about more than just lectures and exams. We want to help students connect, network, and spend time together. That’s why we organize various events to make your academic experience more engaging.
Our specific responsibilities include, among other things:
- Representing student interests to faculty members and the department
- Serving as a point of contact for questions, problems, or feedback related to your studies
- Providing support with academic planning, as well as tips and insights from our own student experiences
- Organizing events, such as orientation events for first-year students, parties, game nights, field trips, or sports activities
Join us
Our student association thrives on the involvement of all students who are interested in getting involved. That’s why all geography students (whether pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s, or teaching degree) are warmly welcome. It doesn’t matter if you want to get involved on a regular basis or just help out at events from time to time - we appreciate any kind of support. We offer many opportunities to get involved: you can contribute your own ideas, help organize events, or get involved in student representation - and in the process, meet lots of great new people and actively shape your academic experience.
If you’re interested in joining us, feel free to drop by one of our meetings (take a look at
Event Calender) or stop by the student association office (Room B/1020) to talk to us. Membership in the student association is, of course, free!
We also offer a mentoring program for all students interested in joining the student council. Through this program, you’ll be paired with an experienced member of the student council who will support you during your first few weeks and serve as your direct point of contact.
