Cyber-physical Systems Engineering
What is this research area about?
Cyber-physical systems connect the physical and digital worlds to form intelligent integrated systems. Our focus is on the development of complex, networked architectures in which sensors, actuators and smart software work together seamlessly in real time.
Our research covers the full spectrum of this interdisciplinary field: from the analysis and design of embedded systems with stringent real-time requirements to modern software engineering methods for large, distributed system landscapes.
We place particular emphasis on combining theoretical foundations with application-oriented research. Among other things, we are working on methods for reliable system monitoring, adaptive control, model-based development and ML-supported optimisation. In doing so, we always take the complex interconnections into account to ensure the quality and robustness of the overall system.
Together with partners from academia and industry, we put our findings directly into practice – for example, in smart grids, connected mobility, industrial automation and medical technology.
