Johann Frei attended the 62nd Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL 2024) Bangkok, Thailand, from August 11 to 16, where he presented his current research. The ACL is one of the world's leading conferences in the field of computational linguistics and natural language processing (NLP). The conference offered him the opportunity to exchange ideas with leading experts and gain valuable insights into the latest developments in computational linguistics. The exchange with colleagues from the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and the LISN - Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire des Sciences du Numérique was particularly enriching and made the stay in Bangkok unforgettable, both during the sessions and afterwards.

Johann Frei was particularly impressed by the wide range of presentations on highly topical issues in applied computational linguistics. The highlight of the conference for him was the professional exchange with experienced researchers on the latest developments in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP) as well as on approaches to adequately teach NLP in the age of large language models (LLMs).

Special thanks go to Lisa Raithel, Philippe Thomas and Roland Roller for their valuable feedback and the invitation to the DFKI lab in Berlin.
