We are pleased to announce that our paper “Swipe, Watch, Switch: Assessing the QoE Effects of Quality Switches in Short-Form Videos” [1] was honored with the Best Paper Award at the 18th International Conference on Quality of Multimedia Experience (QoMEX 2026), which took place from June 29 to July 3, 2026, in Cardiff, Wales (United Kingdom).

The paper was the result of a joint research project between our department and the University of Würzburg. It was authored by Filip Simonovski, Theo Zahn, Dr. Nikolas Wehner, and Prof. Dr. Michael Seufert. The study examined the impact of quality switches and their placement on the Quality of Experience (QoE) of short-form videos.

In addition, our department was represented at the conference with another research paper. Johannes Schleicher presented the short paper “A QoE Prisoner’s Dilemma: Quantifying Benefits and Drawbacks of Individual QoE Management” [2], co-authored with Prof. Dr. Michael Seufert. The study examines the feasibility of individual QoE management, in which user feedback is used to adapt network resources to the personal QoE requirements of individual users.
