Vita
I am originally from Portugal, where I studied Molecular Biology and Genetics (BSc) and Biochemistry for Health (MSc) in Lisbon. In 2018, I moved to Porto for my Master’s thesis in gastric cancer glycosylation. In 2020, I took a life-changing step by moving to Hannover to begin my PhD at Hannover Medical School. My research focuses on the role of glycosphingolipids in bladder cancer and on applying multiplexed capillary gel electrophoresis with laser-induced fluorescence detection (xCGE-LIF) for biomarker discovery. This work led to the identification of neolactotetraosylceramide (nLc4) as a new urinary biomarker for bladder cancer.
Beyond my research, I am deeply passionate about science communication and, as a mother of twin girls, I advocate for women and mothers in STEMM.
Music has also been an important part of my life, not only as a hobby but also professionally in the past. I enjoy singing and playing the accordion, which bring creativity and balance to my daily life alongside my scientific career.
