Course with virtual patients for practicing clinical reasoning

At the chair, we provide various courses to support students in practicing clinical reasoning. Using virtual patients, they can learn how to diagnose in a safe learning environment and, above all, learn from mistakes without endangering patients. The virtual patients consist of a representation of the case history from initial contact to therapy decisions and thus promote the acquisition of diagnostic competence at different competence levels.

Course via Virtuelle Hochschule Bayern "Clinical reasoning with virtual patients (introductory course)"

  • Target group: Medical students in semesters 1-4, medical informatics students.

The focus of the processing of the 15 virtual patients on common consultation occasions, such as cough, abdominal pain or shortness of breath, is primarily on identifying and naming relevant findings in specialist terminology. Differential diagnoses, investigations and therapeutic measures are provided by the system in the form of "worked examples".

The course is integrated into the clinical longitudinal course in the first year of study, but can also be used for self-study.

Course offered as part of the iCoViP project:

As part of the icovip project, the current range of 65 virtual patients will be expanded so that 200 VPs will be available in the future. These will be offered in German, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Polish and can thus be used not only for practicing clinical reasoning but also as preparation for semesters abroad, clinical traineeship or PJ tertials.

Access to: Log-in with your university identification code (Uni-Kennung)  CASUS

Course offered as part of the DID-ACT project:

If you want to learn more about clinical reasoning, you can take the DID-ACT course units. The curriculum is still  being developed, but the first courses for beginners are already ready.
