Jane2 - Joint Action Networks of Expertise on Cancer
About the project
Funding: European Union
Project duration: 1 November 2024 – 31 October 2028
The aim of the project is to improve care for cancer patients across Europe by developing new, Europe-wide ‘networks of expertise’. Networks are to be established in the following areas:
- Complex cancers with a poor prognosis
- Palliative care
- Survivorship
- Personalised primary and secondary prevention
- Omic technologies
- High-tech medical resources
- Adolescents and young adults with cancer
JANE-2 is coordinated by the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale Tumori in Milan. It involves 133 partner institutions from 29 European countries.
The overarching aim of the ‘Palliative Care’ work package is to ensure that palliative care is accessible to all cancer patients in Europe in line with their needs, including whilst they are undergoing cancer treatment. To this end, uniform standards for palliative care, as well as standards for initial and continuing training, are to be developed and implemented across Europe.
The Chair of Palliative Medicine at the University of Augsburg, together with the University of Copenhagen, is leading the sub-project ‘Content, Understanding and Organisation of Palliative Care’. The aim is to map and analyse existing structures and standards of palliative care in the field of oncology across Europe.
