Healthcare

The Department of Integrative Health and Prevention at the University Hospital Augsburg brings together conventional evidence‑based medicine with scientifically validated approaches from nature-based and complementary medicine (TCIM/TCIH). Its mission is to deliver patient‑centered Integrative Medicine, taking individual needs, lifestyle factors, and personal resources into account. In this context, complementary medical methods are never positioned as alternatives to conventional medicine, but always as evidence‑informed additions that undergo systematic evaluation for efficacy, safety, and underlying mechanisms.

The  University Outpatient Clinic for Environmental Medicine and Integrative Health provides specialized consultation and co‑treatment for acute and chronic conditions, as well as comprehensive support in health promotion and prevention. Core areas include classical European naturopathic therapies, mind‑body medicine, forest and nature therapy, and the integration of traditional medical systems such as TCM and Traditional Indian Medicine. A particular focus lies on strengthening self‑efficacy, health literacy, and preventive competencies to enhance long‑term quality of life and complex disease management. Care is delivered through an interdisciplinary and interprofessional approach, guided by current scientific evidence and a holistic understanding of health.

Looking ahead, the department aims to expand its services through integrative day‑clinic programs to implement multimodal therapies more intensively and in a structured manner. At present, the primary focus remains on outpatient care as a low‑threshold, research‑driven entry point to best-practice integrative health services at the University Hospital Augsburg. The department is committed to closely linking innovative research with clinical practice and contributing to a sustainable, future‑oriented, and evidence‑based health‑care landscape in Augsburg, Bavaria, and beyond.
