Research Statement

My research is concentrated on Hamiltonian dynamics, in particular on the investigation of the Newtonian N-Body problems, and symplectic geometry.

Teaching Statement

Teaching is an activity which provides a chance both for the students and the teacher to learn and to interact. The experience of giving courses not only serve the students to acquire new knowledges, but also renews the understanding of the teacher. Teaching is therefore a healthy and helpful complement to the research activities, which helps to keep the research activities more motivated morally. Teaching also provides chance to interact with students. I therefore values greatly the chances for teaching bachelor and master level courses.


In general, whenever possible I prefer to write most of the details on the blackboard, so that the students/audiences a better chance to follow and to understand as much as possible in or after the class/lecture. I think this is particularly important for lecturing mathematics. Nevertheless, I am also prepared to use other ways of presentation should it seems more t to the purpose of the class.


When the number of students for a course is small, I tend to create more chances for interactions by posing questions or rst discuss ideas of proofs. For bigger class of students, I try to make the presentation and my writing as clear as possible.


I am happy to answer questions from the students.

 

When I teach in German, I write detailed lecture notes along the course and distribute it to the students, so that the linguistic barrier can be reduced to be manageable to most students.
   

I am ready to offer courses in the broader realm of analysis, geometry and mechanics at a bachelor and master level, among which dynamical systems and symplectic geometry are favoured as these courses also allow to present a large variation of topics which I am personally very interested in. For more research oriented courses I can o er advanced classical and celestial mechanics, theory of integrable systems as well as certain topics on Hamiltonian systems and symplectic topology.
