Bachelor’s and Master’s Theses
Master's Thesis
The Chair of Polymer Composite Materials Technology is collaborating with the DLR-ZLP Institute and the Chair of Regelungstechnik in der Ingenieurinformatik to develop and gain a better understanding of ultrasonic welding of polymer composites, a technique that holds great promise for the future due to its short cycle and suitability for automated manufacturing processes. However, the weld quality and the consistency of the weld seam are highly sensitive to the process control parameters. Our aim is to test and optimize the speed controller developed by the Chair of Control Engineering in order to achieve robust and reproducible weld seams.

Master’s Thesis
At the Center for Lightweight Production Technology (ZLP) in Augsburg, a Master’s thesis is available immediately focusing on the further development of a simulation environment for industrial robots. The work is embedded in research on automated CFRP (carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer) manufacturing processes and the development of digital, robot-assisted production solutions aimed at advancing sustainable technologies for aviation.
The thesis involves analyzing available software solutions on the market as well as conducting a comprehensive literature review on path planning for industrial robots and mobile robotic platforms. Based on this foundation, an existing simulation environment will be further developed for a specific production use case in which an industrial robot mounted on a mobile platform is used to plan and execute assembly paths. The proposed approaches will be validated using both generic and application-specific scenarios, followed by a structured evaluation and discussion of the results.
