Qualification and occupation as occupational therapist, specialization psychiatry and drug addiction therapy (1980-1987); diploma in psychology, specialization in action theoretical and cultural psychology (Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg, 1993); research assistant in the interdisciplinary research project “Interaction and communication in cooperative learning sequences (FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg); PhD in philosophical studies (psychology, sociology, linguistics, FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg, 1999), thesis on socially constructed aspects of teachers’ thought processes; research assistant and lecturer of psychology in teacher education (FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, 1999; University of Hannover, 2000-2005; University of Stuttgart, 2006-2008); funded evaluation study of the motivation and learning processes of elder learners in tertiary professional education programs (automotive industry, Audi, 2008-2011); coordinator of the academic career and organization development program of the excellence cluster Simulation Technologies (SimTech) and the graduate school of Non-linearities and Upscaling in PoroUS Media (NUPUS) (University of Stuttgart, Center for Higher Education and Lifelong Learning, 2011-2012); research assistant and lecturer for pedagogical diagnostics, professionalization in education, and research methodology (Technische Universität Darmstadt, Department of Professional Education, 2013-2015); research assistant and coordinator of evaluation studies in the project “Advancement of Teachers’ Professionalism in the Context of Student Heterogeneity” (LeHet) (University of Augsburg, Department of Psychology, 2016-).

  • Teachers’ competence development (models of differential learning processes, modification of subjective theories and action patterns)

  • Cultural and gender influences in communication and interaction

  • Mixed methods and mixed methodology

Research projects

  • Development of attitudes, self-efficacy expectations, and epistemological beliefs of teachers and teacher students in the context of professional learning
  • Modeling and assessing teachers‘ counseling competence in intercultural parent-teacher talks
  • Student evaluations of special university courses designed to build teacher competences in dealing with pupil diversity and diverse learning processes
  • Knowledge bases of L2-teachers and teacher students for assessing students’ language proficiency (in cooperation with Kirstin Ulrich, researcher on principles of teaching and learning German as a second language)
