The “Thinking with Wetlands” working group focuses on so-called water-land transition zones, such as wetlands, from the early modern period to the present day, fascinated by the fact that they are neither land nor water. The working group meets regularly at the IEK to read texts together or discuss their own work.

The Network for Environmental History at the University of Augsburg spans from antiquity to the present day, covering topics ranging from the historical documentation of climate change, dietary habits, and pollution to the ecological perspectives of Enlightenment economists. It has both regional and global roots.

The network for the history of communication focuses on the scholarly examination of communicative processes, situations, and their mediality. History of Communication, with a focus on specific historical periods as well as a broader, trans-historical perspective, examines the significance of media for people and society, communicative contexts, conditions, and effects, and analyzes the emergence and structural transformation of public spheres.
