Conference: "Human Dignity and Human Rights The Legacy of the Black Civil Rights Movement in the Transatlantic World"

The conference on the Legacy of the Black Civil Rights Movement in the Transatlantic World, organized in collaboration with the University of Augsburg and the University of Erfurt, will be held at the Akademie für Politische Bildung in Tutzing from September 8th to 10th. The event will be mostly live and in-person, with some speakers appearing digitally. 

The conference aims at bringing together scholars from the United States and different European countries to discuss the legacy of the Black Civil Rights Movement from a transnational and interdisciplinary perspective. You can expect many stimulating lectures, discussions and friendly get-togethers on the shores of Lake Starnberg.

The conference aims to take a closer look at the origins and uses of the concepts of human dignity and human rights within the Civil Rights Movement and to explore how its legacy has inspired activism and organizations for racial and social justice in the transatlantic world.

The conference is being organized by  Prof. Dr. Britta Waldschmidt-Nelson (Augsburg),  Dr. Michael Mayer (Akademie für politische Bildung) and  Prof. Dr. Michael Haspel (Erfurt).
