The interdisciplinary Green Research Network BRaVE at the Center for Climate Resilience marks its halfway point – Guest lecture by Prof. Dr. Simron J. Singh from the University of Waterloo in Canada
On Friday, May 22, 2026, the twelve doctoral candidates of the interdisciplinary Green Research Network “Building Climate Resilience for a Vital Environment (BRaVE): Identification of Vulnerabilities, Indicators, and Actions,” along with their research supervisors, tandem partners, and other members of the Center for Climate Resilience, to provide insights into their research and discuss interim results. The event was opened by Vice President Prof. Dr. Axel Tuma together with the Director of the Center for Climate Resilience, Prof. Dr. Harald Kunstmann. Following this, Visiting Professor Prof. Dr. Simron J. Singh spoke in his presentation “Infrastructure, Risk, and Resilience on Small Island Developing States (SIDS): Navigating the Nexus” about the challenges facing regions particularly affected by climate change: the so-called Small Island Developing States (SIDS). He highlighted how infrastructure, risk management, and resilient development strategies must be integrated to strengthen the long-term adaptability of these island states. The University of Augsburg is pleased to welcome Prof. Dr. Simron J. Singh from the University of Waterloo (Canada) as a visiting professor as part of the Green Transformation initiative. Singh is internationally recognized as one of the leading experts in the field of industrial ecology. Together with the University of Augsburg’s Resource Lab, he is working to establish an international research network dedicated to developing new climate adaptation strategies—particularly for highly vulnerable regions. About the Person: Prof. Dr. Simron J. Singh
Prof. Dr. Simron J. Singh is a professor at the University of Waterloo in Canada, where he leads the “Metabolism of Islands” program. In this capacity, he works closely with island nations in the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, and the Asia-Pacific region. His research combines environmental, resource, and risk sciences with international policy consulting.
