Medicalization of Health

Medicalization of Health. The Changing Medical Profession and Doctor-Patient Relationship as Consequences of Health-Optimizing Medicine. (PhD thesis, working title)

Modern medicine is no longer limited to the treatment and containment of disease: health enhancement is more and more becoming part of the patients and physicians center of interest. As a result, a new healthcare market is emerging. The institution of the so called “individualized health-care” in private-practice and new healthcare-centers are specialized in health enhancement and life-style medicine. Thus, the doctor-patient relationship, as well as the self-conception of the medical profession are approaching a transformation process. The PhD thesis is analyzing this development towards a new kind of economized medicine and its controversial dispute within the medical profession.
