University professor (m/f/d)
of BesGr. W 3 for
Image Processing and Visualization in Digital Humanities

for a tenured civil service employment relationship.

The professorship is to represent an interdisciplinary forum anchored in the Faculty of Philological and Historical Sciences, within the framework of which innovative research in the intersection of the humanities, social sciences and information sciences will be made possible. It should network in research clusters with all disciplines of the faculty and especially with the digital humanities initiatives. Furthermore, the professorship is to assume a bridging function to the already newly established professorships for Natural Language Processing as well as Text and Speech Comprehension in Usage in Digital Humanities at the Faculty of Applied Computer Science and Applied Computer Linguistics with its Focus on Semantic-Pragmatic Text Analysis at the Faculty of Philological and Historical Sciences.

The incumbent (m/f/d) is qualified in digital humanities, particularly within the scope of cultural studies (e.g. Archaeology, Art History, Cultural Anthropology/European Ethnology). A further requirement for the position is experience in digital image processing and/or experience in the field of virtual and augmented reality. In addition, experience with standardised reconstruction processes is desired.

The incumbent (m/f/d) participates in existing study programmes of the faculty, especially with courses on data collection, processing and analysis. Participation in shaping the research area of Digital Humanities and the development of new study programmes are expected. The ability and willingness to teach digitally and also teaching in English are required. International visibility, high-ranked publications as well as extensive experiences in the acquisition of third-party funding are expected.

Requirements for employment are successful conclusion of a university degree, pedagogical qualification, particular capability for scientific work as demonstrated, as a general rule, by the quality of a doctorate, as well as additional scientific achievements as demonstrated by a habilitation or equivalent scientific achievements or in the context of a junior professorship.

Anyone up to the age of 52 may be appointed as a civil servant, otherwise employment under private law is possible.
