The legal basis for the accreditation of degree programs leading to bachelor’s and master’s degrees is provided by Art. 10 Abs. 4 BayHSchG that states:
"Im Bereich von Studium und Lehre, insbesondere der Bachelor und Masterstudiengänge, soll als eine der Maßnahmen der Qualitätssicherung eine Akkreditierung durch eine anerkannte Einrichtung erfolgen."
Accreditation is specifically regulated in the State Treaty on Higher Education Accreditation and, above all, in the Bayerischen Studienakkreditierungsverordnung (BayStudAkkV).
