In the following drop-down table you can find the intercultural courses that are most commonly offered for exchange students at the University of Augsburg. Please note that not all of these courses are offered every semester. The courses that are actually offered in the next semester are shown in the list at the bottom of this website as soon as they have been entered into the course management system „Digicampus“.
This course aim is to explore the German (academic) culture in a relaxed, dynamic learning atmosphere. It will help you find out how to deal with the challenges you might face in Germany. You can try out interactive exercises and develop your own ways of coping with the new and unfamiliar. You will meet other exchange students and will have the opportunity to share your experiences with them and learn from each other. Mutual feedback and joint discussions also help you gain interesting insights into German culture and the way the other experience it. It is important to develop your own strategies which are useful to master intercultural encounters and misunderstandings.

Ziel dieses Kurses ist es, den Austauschstudierenden das Wissen über die kulturellen Unterschiede in der Kommunikation zu vermitteln. Basis dafür bildet die deutsche Kultur und die Ausgangskulturen der Teilnehmer. Im Laufe des Kurses werden die Studierenden eine Gelegenheit bekommen, sich über ihre eigene Kultur Gedanken zu machen und diese mit der deutschen zu vergleichen. Dadurch wird ein besseres Verständnis für beide erzielt. Der Kurs baut nicht nur auf den theoretischen Inhalten, sondern auch auf praktischen Übungen aus dem Bereich der interkulturellen Trainings auf. Von den Studierenden wird aktive Mitarbeit und reger Austausch über ihre Erfahrungen erwartet.

ECTS: 2 (Anwesenheit und aktive Mitarbeit), 4 (Anwesenheit, aktive Mitarbeit und Präsentation) oder 6 (Anwesenheit, aktive Mitarbeit und Erstellung eines „Wegweisers“ für Austauschstudierende)
Im Seminar wird die Kultur Deutschlands behandelt, beispielsweise Feste und Bräuche, Medien, Musik und Werbung. Auch historische, geografische und politische Inhalte werden Teil des Seminars sein. Ziel des Kurses ist es, Austauschstudierenden einen ersten Einblick in ihr Gastland Deutschland zu geben, wichtige Grundkenntnisse zu vermitteln und dabei kulturelle Unterschiede zu anderen Kulturen herauszuarbeiten und zu reflektieren.

This course develops knowledge and a more complex understanding of current events, culture and debates in Germany today. It will explore the most up-to-date social, economic and political issues and contexts as well as recent history in regards to modern German society. This seminar is designed for students with good background knowledge of German politics, history, and culture who are interested in developing awareness and understanding for current topics. Course participants will be expected to read at least two pieces of literature (scholarly articles, news stories, opinion pieces, etc.) every week prior to class and come prepared to discuss topics in-depth. Course materials will be up-to-date from German radio, television, film, and newspapers. Seminar participants will be expected to be engaged in all discussions and prepare short presentations on selected topics. This course assumes basic knowledge about Germany and builds off of the course “Germany from an Intercultural Perspective”.
