DFG funds Augsburg research on the environmental history of antiquity

The ancient historian PD Dr. Dr. Christopher Schliephake explores how ancient societies regulated the use of natural resources and particularly the role of religious ideas played in this context. The German Research Foundation (DFG) is funding the new project at the University of Augsburg on the environmental history of ancient Greece. The three-year project will receive around 240,000 euros.

Optical writing of antiferromagnets: Towards a new generation of memories and communication networks?

Researchers from Augsburg and Japan have achieved a breakthrough by writing and reading magnetic information in antiferromagnets using only light. The new method, based on the momentum of laser pulses, could enable faster, low-energy data storage and directly link optical communication with magnetic memory technologies. The research was recently published in the renowned journal Nature Materials.
