Funding rates by country
The Erasmus programme is organised into projects. The funding rate for the three country groups is set by the National Agency DAAD at national level to ensure equality and transparency for all students. This means that all students at German higher education institutions who go to the same country to study under the Erasmus programme in the same project year receive the same monthly grant.
Project 2025 (Academic Year 2025/26)
Country Group 1:
Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden —> Grant amount per funded month: 600 EUR
Country Group 2:
Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Malta, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain—> Grant amount per funded month: 540 EUR
Country Group 3:
Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, —> Grant amount per funded month: 540 EUR

Funding period
The minimum duration for any Erasmus+ mobility for studies is 2 months (= 60 days).
The University of Augsburg provides funding for a maximum of 4 months (= 120 days) per semester mobility abroad. Any days exceeding this limit are recorded as ‘zero-grant’ days but are not financially supported.
Payment is made in two instalments. Participating students will be informed of the exact payment arrangements and further funding conditions in their Grant Agreement.
If the minimum duration and the general conditions stated in the Grant Agreement are not met, the student is not entitled to any financial support.
In the event of a premature termination of the mobility due to illness, proof (i.e. a medical certificate) must be submitted. Subject to approval of the National Agency, it might then be decided on an individual basis that the portion corresponding to the days actually spent studying abroad may be retained by the student, and only the excess amounts paid need to be returned by the student.
Additional funding for travel days and travel expenses
The additional funding for travel days and travel expenses depends on whether or not you spend most of your travel to and from your host country using low-emission means of transport in accordance with the principles of "Green Travel".
The following main means of transport are classified as low-emission ("Green Travel"):
- Train
- Bus
- Carpooling (= carpooling in the car)
- Bicycle
- Other sustainable means of transport, e.g. on foot
In addition, all participants receive a flat-rate travel allowance, the amount of which depends on the distance and the mode of transport.

Social Top-up for Students with Fewer Opportunities
Participating students who meet at least one of the eligibility criteria described below receive additional funding of 250 EUR per funded month - a so called "Social Top-up":
Call 2025 (Academic Year 2025/26)
- First-generation students (students whose parents/guardians do not have any experience in higher education):
Both your parents or guardians do not have a degree from a university, university of applied sciences or technical college, vocational academy in Germany or abroad.
- Employed Students:
You have been gainfully employed for at least 6 months in the time window of 6 months before your Erasmus application at the University of Augsburg and the start of your exchange.
The net earnings of your employment, averaged over 6 consecutive months, must be above EUR 450 per month and below EUR 850 per month .
The employment in the sending country will not be continued during the exchange, not even through mobile working (home office) or paid vacation. Termination is not a prerequisite, the employment contract can also be paused.
- Student with child(ren):
You are taking at least one of your own minor children with you during the entire exchange. The funding remains the same, even if you take several of your own children abroad. Funding is also possible if the partner travels with you; double support of the child is to be ruled out.
- Students with chronic illnesses:
You have a chronic illness (physical or mental) that creates additional financial needs abroad.
- Students with disability:
You have a degree of disability ("GdB") of at least 20 or you have a proven disability that creates an additional financial need abroad.

Real cost funding application
Participants with a disability or chronic illness, as well as those with children, may claim reimbursement of actual expenses.
To do so, an application must be submitted to the National Agency DAAD.
Students in the target group have the opportunity, as part of this application, to apply for a grant to cover the actual additional costs of studying abroad of up to 15,000 EUR per semester.
As various supporting documents must be provided for such an application and the processing time is usually several months, interested students should contact the International Office at an early stage (ideally when applying for an Erasmus+ exchange spot).
