Application
Application Procedure
The regular application phase takes place every year in the winter semester for a semester abroad in the following academic year.
Step 1: Complete the online application form and submit it.
Step 2: Log in to Mobility-Online with your RZ user ID and complete the personal details there.
Step 3: Upload the required documents in Mobility-Online and complete the questionnaire on your study plans abroad.
After the documents have been reviewed and, where applicable, after a selection interview at the International Office or in your department, you will receive an acceptance or rejection by the end of January at the latest.
If you would like to accept the place, you must upload the declaration of acceptance ("Annahmeerklärung") in Mobility-Online within two days so that you are registered for the place on a binding basis. Anyone who no longer wishes to take part in the WeltWeit programme must withdraw the application as soon as possible.
Application Documents
- You can select up to 5 WeltWeit host universities.
- You must decide on a period for the semester abroad (winter semester, summer semester, or winter semester and summer semester).
Please note:
Completing the online application form is very quick. You will certainly not need more than half an hour for this. However, you must then log in to Mobility-Online with your RZ user ID and there complete both a questionnaire on your study plans abroad and the selected host universities, as well as upload your application documents.
- maximum size: 500x500 pixels, 5 MB
- current portrait photograph; it does not have to be biometric
- in German (in English only if German is not your native language)
- maximum 2 pages
- Please structure the CV sensibly and do not omit any information
- Insert date and signature
You submit a letter of motivation, in which you set out the overarching academic objectives across your priorities for the semester abroad. You should address why you have chosen the target country or countries and what you wish to do during your semester abroad.
Please submit the document in German (in English only if German is not your first language).
Some tips:
- Formulate your points as specifically as possible and avoid clichés (e.g. “The USA is the land of unlimited opportunities” or “I have always been interested in Asia”).
- Address your academic objectives: Do you primarily want to obtain credits that can be recognized in your degree programme in Augsburg, or would you like to develop a regional specialisation, or do you want to intensify your language skills? How is the stay abroad embedded in your study progression plan?
- You should show that you are well informed about the host universities and their study programmes; therefore, please explain to what extent the selected countries/universities are suitable for achieving your academic objectives.
- This is NOT about presenting your qualifications or describing yourself as a person. Your qualifications should be evident from your CV.
- You also do not need to present a specific study plan or a specific course selection in this letter of motivation. This only becomes relevant in the letter of motivation for a scholarship application once you already know for which host university you have been selected.
- Please format your letter of motivation properly, preferably in letter form.
For this purpose, generate your German certificate of enrolment for the current semester in the VIBS portal and upload the corresponding PDF unchanged to Mobility-Online.
At the time of application, you need current and valid proof of your knowledge of the language of instruction. It is not possible to submit this document at a later date.
Please therefore find out in advance which certificates are accepted for the respective language.
Please note that you must submit several proofs of language proficiency if different languages of instruction apply to the priorities you have indicated, e.g. English for Taiwan and Canada, Spanish for Peru.
Please combine these certificates into one PDF, as you cannot upload several individual documents.
Students Holding a Bachelor’s Degree from Germany
Please upload the following parts of your Bachelor’s degree certificate (and NOT the Diploma Supplement):
- Degree certificate showing the academic title awarded and the final average grade
- Transcript of records (overview of individual grades)
If you have not yet received your Bachelor’s degree certificate, please upload your most recent transcript of records from your Bachelor’s programme instead, ideally including your current average grade.
No certified copy of the certificate is required.
Students Holding a Bachelor’s Degree from Abroad
Please upload the following documents:
- Degree certificate showing the academic title awarded and the final average grade
- Transcript of records (overview of individual grades)
- Explanation of the grading system
If your documents are not issued in German or English, an official translation into one of these two languages is required.
Please generate the module confirmation in STUDIS ("Modulbestätigung") under the tab “Data Sheet (verifiable)” and upload this document to Mobility-Online.
Please note:
It must be the module confirmation (not the module and course confirmation / "Modul- und Lehrveranstaltungsbestätigung") and the document must contain the verification option.
- Anyone in the first semester of an undergraduate degree programme should upload the Abitur certificate.
- Anyone in the 1st semester of a Master’s programme should upload an “empty” module confirmation from STUDIS or a self-formulated placeholder document. Please do not upload your Bachelor’s grades again at this point.
The questionnaire in Mobility-Online asks about your objectives for the semester abroad, your course selection and the semester dates at the host universities. On the basis of your answers, the selection committee checks whether your objectives and your plans for the semester abroad are compatible with the selected universities.
The information on semester dates and courses must be provided for each selected university. So if, for example, you selected 4 universities in the online application form, you must provide the information for all four universities.
Please note:
In the questionnaire, the length of the answer is limited. Please answer as specifically and briefly as possible!
No subsequent changes to the information in the questionnaire are possible. Therefore, research all information thoroughly and correctly beforehand.
Application Period
15 October to 30 November 2026 (for the winter semester 2027/28 and the summer semester 2028)
15 April to 15 June 2027 (for remaining exchange spots for the summer semester 2028)
Q&A on the Application Documents
Yes, you may apply for both programmes simultaneously in order to increase your chances. Please note that, in both applications, you must indicate whether WeltWeit or Erasmus is your first choice. This information must be identical in both applications. Ultimately, you will receive only one offer of a place in an exchange programme.
If you genuinely intend to complete two semesters abroad (e.g. Erasmus in the Winter Semester and WorldWide in the Summer Semester), you must clearly indicate this. Otherwise, as described above, you will receive only one placement.
Yes. By the respective application deadline at 11:59 p.m., you must have uploaded all required documents to Mobility-Online, including an officially valid certificate confirming your current level of proficiency in the foreign language.
In this case, please contact Ms Schneider before submitting your application so that you can submit two separate applications in Mobility-Online—one for the Winter Semester and one for the Summer Semester.
Yes, it is. You may apply even if you have not yet received a confirmed offer of admission to a Master's degree programme at the University of Augsburg.
However, in this case you will only receive a conditional offer. Before you can be nominated to the host university, you must provide proof of your enrolment at the University of Augsburg.
