If you applied during the regular application period (by 30 November), you will receive an offer or rejection by email no later than the end of January.

If you are offered a place, you must sign and upload an Acceptance Declaration in Mobility-Online by the specified deadline. By doing so, you formally accept the exchange place and commit to taking part in the exchange semester.

You will then be asked to enter your passport details in Mobility Online. These details are required for your nomination to the host university. Please ensure that your passport will remain valid for the entire duration of your exchange.

At this stage, you can also indicate in Mobility-Online whether you would like to apply for a PROMOS scholarship. If so, you will have one week after accepting your place to apply for the scholarship. 

All further steps will be explained during a pre-departure session organised by the International Office.

• Students going abroad in the winter semester attend the meeting in February.
• Students going abroad in the summer semester attend the meeting in late June.

After the meeting, you will receive access to a digital information folder containing:

• application information for your host university;
• required application documents;
• important deadlines; and
• contact details of current and former exchange participants.

Approximately six months before your exchange semester begins, the International Office will officially nominate you to your host university.

After nomination, you will need to complete the host university's application process independently. The required documents vary between institutions and will be listed in the International Office's Fact Sheet, which you will receive in good time.

Many host universities require some or all of the following documents:

• Application form or online application
• Transcript of Records
• Copy of your passport
• Confirmation of Enrolment (English version from VIBS)
• Study Plan
• CV/résumé in English
• Proof of language proficiency (e.g. TOEFL, DAAD Language Certificate)
• Proof of financial resources, where applicable

Language Requirements

By the time you apply to your host university, you must be able to provide proof that you meet the language requirements specified by that institution.

If your language certificate did not yet fulfil the host university's requirements when you applied through the University of Augsburg, you must submit an updated certificate at this stage. The International Office will inform you which type of language certificate is required.

If you would like courses taken abroad to count towards your degree programme at the University of Augsburg, you must discuss your course selection and recognition options with your department before your exchange and complete a Recognition Agreement ("Anerkennungsvereinbarung (AV)"). Detailed information about the credit transfer and recognition process can be found on this page.

Important:

In addition, a small number of partner universities require a Learning Agreement (LA).

If your host university requires a Learning Agreement, please complete the template provided by the host institution and send it, together with your completed and signed Recognition Agreement (AV), by email to   weltweit.outgoing@aaa.uni-augsburg.de, so that it can be reviewed and signed.

A few weeks after submitting your application to the host university, you should receive your Admission Letter/Confirmation of Enrolment. 

•     If the Admission Letter is sent to the International Office, we will upload it to Mobility-Online on your behalf.
•     If the Admission Letter is sent directly to you, you must upload the document to your Mobility-Online workflow within one week.

Once you have received your Admission Letter, you can begin the process of applying for a student visa, if required.

Please contact the embassy or consulate of your host country in Germany for information about visa requirements and the application procedure. Most embassies and consulates provide detailed guidance on their websites, including information on the required documents and application deadlines.

We strongly recommend that you familiarise yourself with the visa requirements as early as possible and allow sufficient time to prepare all necessary documents and complete the application process.

1. Student Accommodation

Most partner universities in Asia offer exchange students the opportunity to live in university accommodation. Applications for student housing are usually submitted as part of the host university application process.

In Latin America, student halls of residence are generally not available. Students are therefore normally responsible for arranging their own accommodation after receiving admission from the host university.

In Australia and North America, student accommodation is often available; however, it differs significantly from university accommodation in Germany. Unlike many German student residences, which are often subsidised, halls of residence in Australia and North America are typically operated by private providers. As a result, accommodation costs may not be lower than renting on the private housing market. In addition, a compulsory meal plan is often required.

2. Arranging Your Own Accommodation

Many students choose to organise their own accommodation for their exchange semester.

You should contact former exchange participants before you leave to find out which neighbourhoods are popular with students and which accommodation websites or platforms are most useful.

A common approach is to arrive a few days before the start of the semester, stay in a hostel or other temporary accommodation, and search for long-term housing once you are in the host city.
