Where can I find information about the exchange opportunities?
An overview of the exchange spots available under the WeltWeit Programme, together with detailed information on partner universities, course offerings and language requirements can be found in the Exchange Opportunities search portal. The portal is updated every September and includes the exchange opportunities available for the following academic year.
Finding the Right Host University
Take the time to research which host university is the best fit for your academic goals and study plans. Not every partner institution is equally suitable for every subject area or degree programme.
Please note that some exchange agreements are restricted to specific faculties or academic disciplines. For example, certain partnerships may only be available to students from the Faculty of Business and Economics. These agreements will only appear in the search portal if you select the relevant degree programme.
Most exchange opportunities within the WeltWeit Programme are open to students from all subject areas. However, this does not necessarily mean that every partner university offers suitable courses for every degree programme. It is therefore important that you carefully research the academic offerings of each institution yourself.
What You Should Do
Before submitting an application, we strongly recommend that you:
- use the Exchange Opportunities Search Portal for your research;
- visit the websites of potential host universities;
- explore their current course and module offerings;
- check any language requirements; and
- read the testimonial questionnaires of previous exchange students.
This will help you identify the universities that best match your academic interests and personal goals for studying abroad.
How to Use the Search Portal
As part of your application preparation, you should familiarise yourself with the available partner universities and the information provided in the search portal.
Select the academic year, your degree programme and any additional filters in the upper section of the portal. A list of partner universities available to you will then be displayed.
In the Agreement ("Vereinbarung") column, click the relevant button to access further information. In the next view, select "Info" to view detailed information about the institution and read reports from former participants.
Finally, check whether the host university offers courses that are suitable for your academic needs and study plans.
Careful research at this stage will help you make an informed choice and identify the best destinations for your exchange experience.
Q&A
The vast majority of programmes are open to both Bachelor’s and Master’s students.
There are a few exceptions. When you enter your personal details in the Exchange Opportunities search portal or in our online application form, only universities that are also open to students at your level of study will be displayed.
However, the fact that the programmes are open to Bachelor’s and Master’s students does not automatically mean that they are equally well suited to both groups.
For example, some universities offer more courses at Bachelor’s level than at Master’s level and are therefore better suited to Bachelor’s students. However, there are also universities that only offer English-taught courses in a particular subject area at Master’s level and are therefore not as well suited to Bachelor’s students. You should therefore always research the host university’s website before applying.
In the vast majority of cases, you are free to choose whether you would like to study at the host university for one or two semesters. There are a few exceptions. In these cases, our Exchange Opportunities search portal states, for example, that only one-semester stays are possible.
