Study content

The Master's study programme Materials Science (Material Sciences) offers students a specialised scientific education at a high level and with a research-based focus. The programme deals with the synthesis, characterisation and processing of all functional classes of materials, for example materials for energy generation, biomaterials, thermoelectronics, semiconductors, carbon fibres and organic light-emitting diodes (OLED). During the standard period of study of four semesters, Master's students acquire in-depth knowledge in the core areas of materials science, especially in physics and chemistry. The programme is completed with the individual writing of a Master's thesis on a research topic of the student's choice. All lectures and seminars of the Master's programme Materials Science are held in English. Therefore, in addition to a completed bachelor's degree in a subject related to materials science, proof of a sound knowledge of English is a prerequisite for admission.
