Three centers from New York, Berlin and Augsburg are coming together online to discuss about planetary health - the climate crisis and its putative solutions.

Three centers from New York, Berlin and Augsburg are coming together online to discuss about planetary health - the climate crisis and its putative solutions. Therefore, Prof. Dr. Claudia Traidl-Hoffmann, Chair of Environmental Medicine, invites to the next online IEM seminar. Prof. Dr. Dr. Susan Prescott gives an introduction about planetary health on all scales. Afterwards, Prof. Dr. Dr. Sabine Gabrysch provides deeper insights in putative solutions focusing on food and agriculture.
At the end, there will be time for questions and discussions.

Seminar Topic:
Symbiosis on all scales – Integrating health of people, places and planet. The future of food – addressing value chains and value systems

Seminar Abstract:
The talk will give you an overview about planetary health, symbiosis in a broader sense - including the bi-directional links between microbial ecology and planetary scale challenges - and the value systems that underpin this. A “planetary health” perspective is required for transformative food solutions that are more beneficial to human health, other species and the environment. And it is not just food. We are currently faced with a “syndemic” of multiple global challenges with common systemic drivers. Understanding that these are interrelated means we don’t need to solve each separately. Indeed, we can learn from nature in terms of multi-solving strategies and shared
solutions. For agriculture and food, there are many practical solutions that could be scaled up. More fundamentally, there is a pressing need to revisit our current values, and to recognise and appreciate our interdependence with the web of life, with our planet. Hope lies with people realizing this, empowering themselves to become change-makers and work together to build vision into action for healthier people on a healthier planet.
