Recent and ongoing research in the fields of Educational Psychology and Empirical Educational Research will be presented and discussed in the research colloquium. In addition to scientists from the University of Augsburg, researchers from other research institutions will also report on their work. All colleagues, doctoral researchers and students are cordially invited.

Metacognitive monitoring is the process by which we self-observe our own learning, abilities, and performance during task processing. As such, it is a crucial component of effective self-regulated learning, be cause only if we are aware of dips in our performance or understanding can we make necessary adjustments to maximise our learning. In research studies, monitoring has been operationalised in two ways – the observation or self-report of monitoring behaviours and the collection of monitoring judgments. These operationalisations emerged from different research traditions and have rarely been investigated together. Understanding how these different aspects of monitoring intertwine across development is an important theoretical endeavour and has the potential to inform intervention programs for improving learners’ monitoring skills. In this talk, an overview of the current state of the art in this research field will be provided and some ideas for a new research program will be presented.
