Inhalt der Lehrveranstaltung

Does your English need some improvement? Perhaps you have already taken a refresher course, but your English still needs help. Or maybe it has been years since you have had an English course and you really want to improve it to be able to attend international conferences. Anyone who can speak English (imperfectly), but still struggles with some grammar, vocabulary or fluency issues is welcome to attend. We will meet 5x in the Wintersemester and focus on your needs as an English speaker.

Course objectives

  • Speak English to improve your fluency
  • Review your grammar and practice new vocabulary
  • Develop your communication skills and confidence in speaking English
  • Increase your vocabulary range
  • Improve your capacity to spontaneously react in English

Who should attend

If you are a graduate student of the GGS who needs to improve your English, then this course is for you. If you have not had any English at the University level, then this course is for you. If you have been to other English courses, but still make many mistakes, this course is for you. If you were in the other Refresher course, this is also for you (different content). If you study art history, history, education, or any other subject in the humanities (other than English), this course is for you. This is a course for people who are far from perfect. If you have an undergraduate degree in American or English Literature or English Linguistics, or you have lived in an English speaking country, this course is NOT for you!!!!

 Methodology

The course will be entirely in English with lively discussions and interactions. Each week we will focus on a different topics, with different objectives, using the communicative method. You will do group work, class discussions, role-plays, and all kinds of interactive activities to practice speaking, reading and listening to English in a variety of situations. We have a lot of fun in a relaxing and understanding environment in which no one needs to be ashamed of English mistakes or missing vocabulary words. The trainer is a native speaker with years of language and communication training experience. In this course you will be able to practice your English and learn some useful English phrases necessary for professional communication.
