Welcome to the winter semester 2025/26!
The winter semester 2025/26 has started at the University of Augsburg. Just under 3,000 first-year students have begun their studies.
The lecture period for the winter semester 2025/26 begins on the 13th of October at the University of Augsburg. Prof. Sabine Doering-Manteuffel, the president of the University of Augsburg, welcomes all new and returning students to the new semester. Just under 3,000 first-semester students (2,855 as of 13.10.25) will start their studies this autumn. A total of 97 degree programmes at bachelor, master, and state examination levels can be studied at the University of Augsburg. Particularly popular this winter semester are the degree programmes Human Medicine (state examinations), Media and Communications Science (B.A.), Business Administration (B.Sc.), and Law and Economics (B.Sc.). There was also a high number of applications for international master’s degree programmes, particularly Data Science (M.Sc.). The master’s degree programme Mathematics and Computer Science (M.Sc.) and the bachelor’s degree programme Engineering Science (B.Sc.) were new additions this semester. The master’s degree Music (M. Mus.) was also relaunched. Around 17,763 students are enrolled in the winter semester. The extended enrolment deadline runs until the 20th of October 2025. The final enrolment figures will be available after this. Following the successful opening of the state-of-the-art new teaching building, many members of the Faculty of Medicine are now studying and working there. In the winter semester, 168 new first-semester students will begin their studies in human medicine. Sixty-nine of 101 professorships have already been appointed, and with the founding of the Institute for Theoretical Medicine in January 2025, the Faculty of Medicine has reached another important milestone. In November of this year, the first cohort of students, namely, the very first medical students to study in Augsburg, who started in 2019, will take their final exams. After passing the third state examination, the graduates can start their professional lives as doctors. Thirty of the 33 professorships funded by the Bavarian High-Tech Agenda (HTA) have now been filled. The new modular building was also opened in spring. The building will serve to expand the life sciences at the University of Augsburg and strengthen cooperation between the Institute of Physics and the Faculty of Medicine. All students are encouraged to follow the University of Augsburg’s social media channels: Instagram offers useful tips on studying combined with the best snapshots of campus life and tips for everyday life in Augsburg. Follow the university on Instagram! Save the date: From November 24 to 28, 2025, the University of Augsburg and the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences will be holding around 40 public events as part of the Public Climate School (PCS). The aim of these public events is to share scientifically sound knowledge about the climate crisis and promote dialogue. Lecturers from various faculties will be participating in the Public Climate School. The event is being held in cooperation with the City of Augsburg. The winter semester once again offers a wide range of public lectures and lecture series. Renowned experts from Germany and abroad share their latest research findings. With admission mostly free, interested parties can learn about the latest findings in mathematics, ethics, environmental protection, medicine, history, linguistics, and literary studies, as well as elementary school education and didactics, and engage in dialogue with academics.
To the lecture series & public lectures During the winter months, the lecture theatre will be open twice for the “KinderUni.” To kick things off, Prof. Daniela Pietrini will present a lecture on the topic “From speech bubbles to superpowers – the language of comics.” A second “KinderUni” lecture is planned for January 2026, with further information to come.
