Changing degree programmes or subjects
Change of degree programme or subject since summer semester 2024
Since the summer semester 2024, requests to change degree programme or subject must be submitted via the VIBS application portal.
Please log in to your student account and add an application for your desired degree programme. You may need to change your role to “student” using the tab in the upper right-hand corner. During the online enrolment select that you want to request to change degree programme or subject, entering the degree programme that you want to change from. Once you have completed the online enrolment, please submit the computer-generated pdf request to change degree programme or subject to the Register’s Office. Please note the deadline in your letter of admission or, if applicable, the enrolment deadline for the relevant semester and enclose the letter of admission or the confirmation for your desired degree programme with the request to change degree programme or subject.
If your desired degree programme is not available to select in VIBS, please contact the Registrar’s Office: bewerbung-studium@zv.uni-augsburg.de
If you plan to change to an open admission degree programme, your documents must reach us by 21 October 2024 at the latest (this means that your documents must be received by the University of Augsburg by this date).
For degree programmes with restricted admission (with NC) or master’s degree programmes, please refer to the deadline in your letter of admission.
Please note that the first information and introductory events can take place as early as end-September. Therefore, please submit your documents in a timely manner.
Information on changing degree programmes or subjects
During enrolment, please select one degree programme, or in the case of a double degree two degree programmes. As soon as you would like to change something about your degree programme, it is referred to as a change in degree programme or subject. For example, you may want to change your degree programme itself or change your major or minor within the two-subject bachelor’s degree programme of the Faculty of Philology and History or change a subject within the three subject didactics combination in the context of an education degree. Alternatively, you may want to add a supplementary extension subject. All of these are considered changes to a degree programme or subject.
Changing to another degree programme after successful completion of a degree programme (e.g., changing to a master’s degree programme or a doctorate) as well as changing to take a final examination to improve grades (law or education degree programmes) are also considered to be changes to a degree programme.
- Changing to an open admission undergraduate degree programme or subject
If you would like to change to an open admission undergraduate degree programme or subject, you must first re-register for the degree programme you have studied up until that time. The change can then take place in the above-mentioned period. Please submit the completed request form to change degree programme or subject to the Registrar’s Office by the deadline. If an aptitude assessment process or test is required for enrolment in the open admission undergraduate degree programme, a corresponding confirmation showing you have passed the aptitude assessment process or test must be included with your other documents for enrolment. The relevant deadline for registering for the aptitude assessment process or test must be observed.
- Changing to a restricted admission undergraduate degree programme, subject, or master’s degree programme
If you would like to change to a restricted admission undergraduate degree programme or subject or to a master’s degree programme, please register during the
re-registration period for the degree programme you have studied up until that time.
In order to change to a restricted admission undergraduate degree programme or subject, you must first submit an
application to the desired degree programme (please note the application deadlines). If you are admitted to the desired degree programme, you can change into the new degree programme within the period stated in your letter of admission at the Registrar’s Office by completing the
request form to change of degree programme or subject (Antrag auf Umschreibung).
If an
aptitude assessment process or test is required for enrolment in the restricted admission undergraduate degree programme or subject, a corresponding confirmation showing you have passed the aptitude assessment process or test must be included with your other documents for enrolment. The relevant deadline for registering for the aptitude assessment process or test must be observed.
In order to change into a master’s degree programme, you must first submit an application to the relevant master's degree programme. If you are granted admission, you can request to change to the master’s degree programme within the period stated in your letter of admission at the Registrar’s Office by completing the request form to change of degree programme or subject (Antrag auf Umschreibung).
Without exception, the above-mentioned changes require that you are enrolled at the University of Augsburg at the time of the application and, if not a first or new enrolment, that you have re-registered for the following semester. This means that your semester fees have been received by the University of Augsburg (remember to state your enrolment number when transferring your fees and not your application number), and that there are no other obstacles to re-registration, such as missing evidence of health insurance. You can check whether you have successfully re-registered via your account in the VIBS portal .
Students whose subjects are assigned to two or more faculties must choose which faculty they are a member of in accordance with Art. 37 Para. 2 Sentence 2 of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (Bayerisches Hochschulinnovationsgesetz, BayHIG). Further details can be found on the form requesting a change of degree programme or subject.
