About Me

As a research associate at the Institute of Geography, University of Augsburg, I investigate socio-environmental contestations over nature, space, and environment – particularly where ecological crises intersect with urban transformation processes and scalar power relations.

My work is grounded in the premise that socio-natures are never neutral but are always-already politically constituted and contested. I examine how diverse actors engage in struggles over hegemonic discourses, resource access, and competing socio-environmental imaginaries, analyzing both the cultural-historical foundations and the territorial manifestations of these contested processes. Theoretically, I work at the intersection of Urban Political Ecology, Critical Urban Geography, and Science and Technology Studies. In my dissertation, I analyzed multi-scalar conflicts over extractive capitalism and forest governance in Ghana's Atewa Forest Reserve.

Current Research Focus

  • Urban Development and Climate Policy: How do cities operationalize climate adaptation and mitigation through institutional arrangements and techno-political assemblages? This research analyzes planning rationalities, administrative apparatuses, and the deployment of digital governance technologies – from algorithmic urban management and participatory governance mechanisms to green infrastructure assemblages. The aim is to critically examine governance modalities and institutional capacities for just urban transitions.

  • Contested Socio-natures and Spatial Politics: Which socio-material struggles and juridical-political contestations shape the production, appropriation, and distribution of urban natures, spaces, and infrastructural assemblages? This research employs political ecological analyses to interrogate processes of accumulation by dispossession and environmental gentrification.

  • Cultural Dimensions and Narratives of Planetary Crisis: Societies exhibit differentiated responses to the Anthropocene and eco-social crisis. This research interrogates how cultural narratives, collective memory practices, and situated knowledges constitute particular sustainability imaginaries and futurity discourses – thereby revealing alternative socio-ecological transformation pathways and decolonial possibilities.
