EIHW researchers were in Heraklion, Greece 16-17th January to participate in the launch of sustAGE, a €4 million EU Horizon 2020 project coordinated by the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH). The collaboration will develop a state-of-the-art assistive system to improve the productivity and quality of life of ageing adult workers.

Exploiting the internet-of-things and machine learning, the cross-platform technology will monitor users' activity and characteristics, including their mood, and guide them as they carry out tasks at work. It will detect, for example, when employees have been sat for too long and advise them to change activity or take a break.

The University of Augsburg is one of nine academic and industrial partners on the project, in which Professor Björn Schuller is Scientific and Technical Manager. Professor Schuller will also lead EIHW researchers in work that will include developing advanced techniques to analyse both physiological signals, measured by wearable devices, and speech. Dr. Nicholas Cummins and PhD candidate Adria Mallol-Ragolta represented the chair at the project launch.
