RESEARCH

Within the framework of our working group on sports psychiatry and psychotherapy, we conduct research in the field of sports therapy for psychiatric disorders, with the aim of developing homogenous and standardized treatment recommendations for patients with mental illnesses.

Our main focus in the field of sports psychiatry are the psychological stress in competitive athletes as well as the effects of sports on mental illnesses.

CURRENT STUDIES / PROJECTS

ReCaP (Running effects on Cognition and Plasticity)

The study investigated the effects of extreme sports on neuropsychological and cardiovascular parameters in marathon runners. The data collection is completed, the evaluation of the subprojects is ongoing.

 

MovE (Motivation for Exercise)

In this logitudinal study, we aim to investigate the interaction between the state of knowledge about physical activity and the effects of physical activity on physical and mental health. Interventions that build on one another serve to determine which measures are most effective in increasing physical activity. 

 

CAPE (Caffeine and physical Performance in mental illness)
This longitudinal pilot study is the first to investigate the influence of caffeine consumption on physical performance in depression. Furthermore, we aim to explore how physical performance changes in relation to caffeine consumption over the course of a twelve-week sports program.
