From June 25-26, the Nordic Annual Environmental and Resource Economics Workshop took place at Denmark’s Technical University DTU in Kongens Lyngby. Around 50 environmental economists presented their research and recent work, covering a wide range of different topics within the discipline. Anna Maier and Felix Kotulla represented the Environmental Economics group of the University of Augsburg at this workshop and had the opportunity to present their current research projects.

Anna Maier presented the research project “The effect of opposing action spaces on group cooperation”. This project is joint work with her colleagues Patrick Hoffmann, Carolin Kreier and Florian Diekert from the Environmental Economics working group at the University of Augsburg. In her presentation, she showed that groups with opposing action spaces behave differently than groups with the same action spaces despite payoff equivalence.

During a research session on information provision, Felix Kotulla presented a research design to investigate individual decision making in tipping point scenarios with and without early warning signals. His project aims to study how early warning signals can be applied in resource extraction problems and how human decision-making changes if a warning system is available. The project is a first contribution to the BRaVE-Project “OpEWS: Operationalization of early warning systems for decision-making in water management”, which investigates how early warning systems can potentially help to prevent the collapse of resource systems.

The workshop was a great opportunity to discuss the group’s current research and to gather feedback and new ideas for the projects. In addition, many early-career researchers took part in the workshop, which made it a good opportunity to connect with other PhD students and young researchers in Europe.
