Welcome Incoming Students - SoSe 2026

The International Team of the Faculty of Philology and History welcomed the incoming students from the international programs for the summer semester of 2026. After a welcome speech by Prof'in Dr'in Kristina Peuschel, the students got to know each other during an icebreaker. They then received important information on how to have a successful academic stay at the University of Augsburg. We wish everyone a great start and a wonderful time here!

Dr. Alison May, Guest Lecturer at the Chair of Applied Linguistics (English)

Dr Alison May is a corpus-based forensic linguist and member of the International Association of Forensic and Legal Linguistics (IAFLL) and International Pragmatics Association (IPrA). In Augsburg, Alison offers a guest lecture "Formulating the facts in police interviews with suspects in criminal cases: an interactional approach" at the Interdisciplinary Linguistics Colloquium Augsburg (27 May 2026, 17:30-19:00) and delivers a workshop "Pedagogies of historical pragmatics: Task-based and research-led learning with The Proceedings of the Old Bailey 1674-1913" at the Opening of Lunguistics Lab (9 June 2026, 11:45-13:15).

Research Fellows from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation

As a Henriette Herz Scout of the Humboldt Foundation, Prof'in Dr'in Simone M. Müller currently has two Humboldt Fellows (2025–2027) at the Chair of Global Environmental History and Environmental Humanities: Dr. Uluwehi Hopkins (University of Hawai'i) and Dr. Harrison Croft (Monash University, Australia). On June 22, as part of the lecture series “Historical Fallout: A Global History of War and the Environment” (10:00–11:30, Lecture Hall II), Dr. Uluwehi Hopkins will give a presentation titled “Aloha ʻĀina: Hawaiʻi, the U.S. Military, and the Efforts to Take Back the Land”—this event is open to everyone.

Guest Lecturer at the Chair of the History of the European-Transatlantic Cultural Space

As a member of the International Committee of the Organization of American Historians (OAH),Prof'in Dr'in Britta Waldschmidt-Nelson has been responsible for the OAH’s German Residency Program for several years. As part of the program, several visiting lecturers from the United States are invited to the University of Augsburg. In the summer semester 2026, Dr'in Jenifer Barclay from the University of Buffalo will give a lecture for Augsburg students and faculty on July 6, 2026. On June 22, an online workshop will be held for the first time for doctoral candidates and postdocs from the Universities of Augsburg, Tübingen, and Buffalo. Further information will follow shortly.

DAAD Project Funding 2026
 
The DAAD has published new calls for proposals for project funding. Information on the funding programs, application deadlines, and eligibility requirements can be found on the DAAD's call page.
 
Philipp Schwartz Initiative -- Application deadline: August 21, 2026
 
The new call for proposals for the Philipp Schwartz Initiative is now open. The initiative supports research stays for at-risk scholars from countries outside the EU. Further information on the application process and program documents can be found on the Philipp Schwartz Initiative website.
 
Welcome Service Reception
 
The Welcome Service of the International Office warmly invites all international researchers, hosting departments and anyone interested in intercultural exchange to a reception on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Foyer of Buildung G. The event will be held in English. 
 
Erasmus Application Period
 
Applications for remaining Erasmus places for the Summer Semester 2027 are open from 2. February to 15 June 2026. Further information is available here. 
 
WeltWeit-Programme Application Period
 
Applications for remaining places in the Summer Semester 2027 are open from 15. April bis 15. Juni 2026. The online application form can be found here.
 
Exchange Programme in History Study at Emory University Atlanta (Georgia), USA in Academic Year 2027/28
 
There is a study place at the Graduate School of Emory University in the academic year 2027/28, which is available for advanced students in History Study at the University of Augsburg. Applications must be submitted in writting by 15. November 2026 to  Prof. Dr. Britta Waldschmidt-Nelson. The call for applications can be found below. 
 
Scholarship for Québec-Studies 2026
 
As part of the cooperation agreement between Bavaria and Québec, two scholarships are available to support Québec-Studies. Electronical applications schould be submitted by  10.
