Filip Simonovski receives Best Oral Presentation Award

We are happy to share that Filip Simonovski received the Best Oral Presentation Award at the 17th International Conference on Quality of Multimedia Experience (QoMEX 2025), held from September 30 to October 3, 2025, in Madrid, Spain.

Filip presented our paper “Swiping, Fast and Slow: Assessing the QoE of Short-Form Videos via Crowdsourcing”, a collaboration between our chair and researchers from the University of Würzburg.

In this work, we developed a novel framework to realistically evaluate the Quality of Experience (QoE) of Short-Form Video (SFV) platforms such as TikTok and Instagram Reels, while fully preserving the mobile and interactive user experience. Using this framework, we conducted two crowdsourcing studies to investigate the impact of waiting times, like initial delay and stalling, on the QoE for SFV.

Overall, we found that participants in crowdsourcing QoE studies for SFV do not always exhibit natural swiping behavior. Moreover, our results show that when an initial delay occurs, users are three times more likely to swipe to the next video within the first ten seconds compared to when a stalling occurs. However, stallings are perceived more negatively overall, as users give, on average, a Mean Opinion Score (MOS) 0.4 points lower than for initial delays under the same waiting time conditions.

These findings provide valuable guidance for improving the delivery of SFV content and enhancing user experience on modern video platforms.
