Patrick Hoffmann's research interests lie in the intersection of behavioral and experimental economics and sustainable use of natural resources. His current research focus is on water scarcity and how it affects cooperative behavior in water governance. He applies mixed methods approaches, including economic (laboratory and field) experiments and qualitative comparative analysis.

Patrick holds an MSc in Environmental Systems Sciences and Economics from Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, Austria and an MSc in Ecological Economics from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Spain. In 2023, he received his PhD in Environmental Sciences and Technology at the Institut de Ciencia i Tecnologia Ambientals (ICTA - UAB) with a dissertation on drought adaptation and sustainable water use in collectively-managed irrigation systems.

Patrick joined the Faculty of Business and Economics and the Centre for Climate Resilience at the University of Augsburg in 2023. Between 2023 and 2025, he was also affiliated with ICTA - UAB, where he joined a research project that studied behavioral, mental, and cognitive factors of water use in Spanish irrigation systems.
