Postdoc (m/f/d) in Computational Biophysics / Machine Learning, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences

The Institute of Physics at the University of Augsburg has an open position in the group of Prof. Dr. Nadine Schwierz as

Postdoc (m/f/d) in Computational Biophysics/Machine Learning

as of September 1, 2024 with a full-time employment on a fixed-term contract of two years. Compensation is provided according to personal and collective agreement conditions under salary group 13 TV-L. Part-time employment is fundamentally possible.

In this research project, a methodology of combining all-atom molecular dynamics simulations and deep learning is developed and applied to lipid nanoparticles. Lipid nanoparticles are the most promising technology for delivering RNA-based medicine to cells. The combination of machine learning and molecular dynamics simulations is expected to yield crucial insights into their molecular structure.

Area of responsibility:

  • Development of a machine learning algorithm to predict the scattering profiles of biomolecular systems.
  • Application of molecular dynamics simulations to generate training data.
  • Calculation of scattering profiles from simulation data and comparison to experiments.
  • Teaching exercises in Physics/Biophysics.

What we offer:

  • Excellent and interdisciplinary research activities in biomolecular simulations with the possibility of habilitation
  • Close collaborations with experimental groups
  • Outstanding, collaborative, and integrated environment of the greater Munich area
  • Access to state-of-the-art supercomputing facilities

Job requirements:

  • Graduation in Physics, Biophysics, Biochemistry, or Bioinformatics
  • PhD in computational or theoretical physics or biophysics
  • Expertise in: Computer simulations, molecular dynamics simulations, machine learning, and high performance computing
  • Very good language knowledge in German and/or English

The required qualifications must already be demonstrated in the application documents through appropriate certificates.

The University of Augsburg is committed to promoting the professional equality of women. Women are expressly encouraged to apply. The University of Augsburg is particularly committed to reconciling family and work life. For further information, please contact the faculty's women's representative.
