Sustainability in Research
Research on sustainability is already being conducted in all faculties of the university and its cross-faculty centres. It is one of Bavaria's leading locations in the areas of climate protection, environmental and resource research, as well as environmental health research.
In accordance with the university's mission statement, sustainability is thus considered an integral component of research activities. In addition to the eight faculties, interdisciplinary centres and institutes consolidate the activities in this priority area. Furthermore, in recent years, the university has begun to strengthen interdisciplinary scientific cooperation and intensify an exchange of top-class researchers and young scientists with an explicit focus on sustainability.
Research
Green Research Network BRaVE
The aim of the "Green Research Network" Building Climate Resilience for a Vital Environment ( BRaVE ): Identification of Vulnerabilities, Indicators and Implications for Actions is to develop interdisciplinary methods for identifying climate-related vulnerabilities and deriving quantitative and / or qualitative indicators for potential early detection of risks. This will lead to sustainable solutions for mitigating these risks.

Young researcher development programme
The programme to promote the acquisition of top-level third party funding to build the profile of young researchers with a specific focus on sustainability therefore supports preliminary scientific work that will lead to high-profile publications, thus significantly increasing the chances of success in acquiring third party funding. The projects must be thematically aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Analysis: SDG-related publications
The extent to which the university's research deals with aspects of sustainability is demonstrated by an analysis of publications from 2021 to 2025 from Elsevier Scopus, conducted by the Green Office. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are assigned on the basis of keyword queries and supplemented by machine learning. Around 39 percent of the University of Augsburg's publications address SDGs.
