The Jakob-Fugger-Zentrum - a Center for Transnational Studies - is an interdisciplinary and internationally oriented research center at the University of Augsburg, which merges, connects and brings together research foci and key issues in the cultural sciences, humanities and social sciences and promotes their public visibility. It encourages academic exchange between its members, coordinates international cooperation, organizes conferences, facilitates the publication of research results and offers support in the administration and acquisition of third-party funds.

 

The Jakob-Fugger-Zentrum continuously distributes grants for

 

Round Tables (small research conferences)
 

The Round Table grant scheme is only open to members of the Jakob-Fugger-Zentrum. The scheme enables JFZ members to invite up to 15 colleagues to a small research conference at the University of Augsburg. The objective of a Round Table must be to jointly develop an innovative research topic and prepare a project proposal, with the prospect of submitting that proposal to a research funding institution.

 

Invitations to a Round Table should be extended to national and international colleagues who should ideally represent different academic disciplines. It is also possible to invite representatives from research funding institutions.

 

If funding is approved for a Round table grant application, the JFZ will cover the following costs:

 

  • Accommodation expenses for up to 2 nights (€ 90/night max.) for participants not residing in Augsburg
  • Travel expenses (2nd class train or economy class flight tickets) for participants not residing in Augsburg

JFZ will also provide funding for meals/food and beverages as well as administrative support for organizing the Round Table.

 

The Round Table participants must submit a short final report that outlines the key findings and the next steps towards submitting a funding proposal. 

Guidance for applicants

 

Applications for a Round Table grant scheme should include the following documents:

 

  • Short description of the research topic (1-2 pages), including details about the funding institution and grant scheme the proposal will be developed for
  • List of participants to be invited
  • Tentative Round table date
  • Statement on whether funding for this project has already been applied for from third parties and, if so, what the status of the review is.

Funding applications for Round Tables are accepted on a continuous basis but should be submitted no later than 3 months before the planned conference date. Funding decisions are made by the Jakob-Fugger-Zentrum management team. Please submit your application via email to:
