Research/Project Modules

Data Infrastructure for Machine Data: Research Module (Bachelor, 6 ECTS) or Project Module (Master, 10 ECTS)

Motivation

In research contexts, requirements for data collection often change dynamically. At the beginning of a project, it is frequently not yet clear which data will be needed or in which format it will be available. Within the framework of the AI Production Network, we are therefore developing a flexible and generic data infrastructure that enables users to independently configure customized data collection pipelines according to their specific requirements.

Tasks

In this module, you will contribute hands-on to the further development of our data infrastructure. Your tasks may include:

  • Developing and extending web interfaces and forms using Next.js

  • Contributing to backend and API functionality, particularly in the context of Apache Pulsar topics

  • Supporting the control and further development of data management in Shepard (DLR)

  • Building and extending test automation with Playwright

  • Contributing to the further development of a flexible infrastructure for configuring data collection pipelines

Your Profile

What is important to us:

  • Experience with Next.js or the ability to confidently work with existing Next.js applications

  • Solid foundations in JavaScript/TypeScript

  • A basic understanding of web applications, APIs, and REST

  • An interest in hands-on development work in the field of data infrastructures

  • A structured and independent way of working, as well as a willingness to familiarize yourself with new topics

Helpful, but not required:

  • Initial experience with Playwright or with test automation in general

  • Initial knowledge of Apache Pulsar or messaging / event streaming concepts

  • Basic knowledge of databases

  • Initial exposure to middleware concepts

  • Initial knowledge of OPC UA or a willingness to familiarize yourself with it if needed
