After his school years, Thomas Schwartz studied philosophy and theology in Münster, Augsburg and Rome between 1984 and 1991, where he was ordained priest in 1990. After chaplaincy and a doctorate in moral theology in Freiburg i.Br., he served as head od the catholic Center for the universities in Augsburg from 1999 to 2009.
From 2005 to 2014, Schwartz was professor of applied ethics at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences and also taught Business and Corporate Ethics at the business faculty of Augsburg University. He became an honorary professor of Business and Corporate Ethics there in 2014. He is a full member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts and the Central Committee of German Catholics, as well as various church commissions at national and international level.
Since the fall of 2021, Schwartz serves as the chief executive officer of Renovabis, the Eastern Europe relief organization of German Catholics.
His research focusses on Sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility and Ethical Leadership.
