The Institute of Theoretical Medicine (ITM) plays a central role in the teaching of the Human Medicine and Midwifery Science Degree Programmes at the University of Augsburg. In the Model Programme in Human Medicine, it provides essential foundational knowledge in anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, and medical psychology from the very beginning, using an integrative and organ-centered approach. A close integration with clinical units and a step-by-step deepening of content within a learning spiral foster a comprehensive understanding of the human body. In addition, ITM promotes engagement with current research topics through scientific practicals and project work.
In the Bachelor's Programme in Midwifery Science, ITM contributes to the theoretical education in the early semesters. It teaches essential fundamentals in medicine that form the scientific basis for practice-oriented midwifery.
